Description
This radio programme is the second of sixteen in the general interest series 'Arts Review 1988'. It is a re-edited version of prograrrme 3 from the OU course A312 'The 19th century Novel', "Th...e Nature of Wuthering Heights", and is being broadcast here as a tribute to its presenter, the late Raymond Williams. Professor Graham Martin introduces the programme with a brief summary of Raymond Williams' distinguished career, as both a literary critic and novelist, as well as highlighting his achievement in the field of cultural studies. In "The Nature of Wuthering Heights", Raymond Williams discusses the complexity of Emily Bronte's novel. He compares it to Charlotte Bronte's work and looks at the different timescales, narrators and depths of emotions of the characters in what otherwise might be dismissed as a 'romantic novel'.
