Description
What is it to engage in reasoning, and why is it important to reason well? We can dismiss the sophist's answer "to persuade", since not all persuading is a form of reasoning. To eliminate... bad reasoning is to eliminate at least one cause of ineffective action - careless thinking leads to careless doing. Less practical but more basic are the answers concerned with using reason to examine our ideas about what is true, or worthy of belief, and to know for oneself what to believe and do.
