Description
This radiovisicn programme examines the tastes in Art of the traditional patrons in the early part of the 19th century, and their preference for the Old Masters, This, of course, undermined the eff...orts of living artists. However, they soon found new patrons in the emerging class of rich industrialists. There emerged also a new breed: art dealers, who not only negotiated between artists and patrons, but published art journals, engravings and other forms of reproduction of contemporary art, thus making it widely available and popular. Art became "universally understood and loved".
