Description
The programme traces the change in men's ideas about nature during the period of industrialisation, from being dependent on water and wind for power and transport to experiencing the freedom from s...uch constraints that the steam engine gave. The programme illustrates also some of the literary, ideological and artistic consequences of the impact of machinery, using source-material of the period like diaries, novels, literary criticism and political and economic writings.
