Description
By tradition performances of Mahler are associated with big cities but two recent performances of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony were in two very different provincial locations, Northampton and Cam...bridge. Dr J Barrie Jones of the Department of Music at the Open University investigates why two amateur orchestras are putting on this demanding work which-requires large forces of voices and instruments. Although very different organisations both Demgate Centre, Northampton and Cambridge University Musical Society are now facing the same problem - they both need sponsorship to enable them to continue putting on large scale and ambitious musical works in the provinces.
