
Description
In this programme Dr. Dinah Barsham introduces the student to the five types of 'non-essential' notes: 1. harmony notes, 2. appoggiaturas, 3. non-accented passing notes, 4. auxiliary notes or morde...nts, and 5. accented passing notes. Using various music examples Dr. Barsham demonstrates the sound and uses of each of the five types as they are most commonly encountered. Finally, as a TMA exercise, students are asked to study part of a Haydn Sonata, and decide which of the five types of non-essential notes are used at various points marked in the score.
