Description
The programme demonstrates a basic change in attitude to writing for instruments during the 18th Century, In the early part of the century, composers such as Bach and Handel wrote with comparativel...y little thought for the character of paticular instruments, and music originally written for one instrument was often later transcribed for another. By the late 18th Century, composers such as Haydn and Mozart, particularly in their orchestral works, exploited the character of the various instruments and used the contrasts between them as an important ingredient in the new "dramatic" style of writing. There were many pioneers in this new style of orchestral music, but the most influential among them were the composers of the Mannheim school.
