Description
This is the second of the two talks by Charles Cudworth. Together they form a link between the course material on Baroque Instrumental Music and that on The Rise of the Symphony. Mr. Cudworth takes... up some of the formal and emotional qualities of Galante music and illustrates them in the music of Tartini, Pergolesi, Rousseau, Rameau, Gluck and J.C.Bach. This music, he argues, gave a great impetus to the development of orchestral music, heightening its emotional effect and developing new orchestral effects which it handed on to the great classical composers such as Haydn and Mozart and eventually to Beethoven and the Romantics.
