Description
In 1797 John Marsh first distinguished between music in the Ancient and Modern Styles. To us today these periods correspond with what we call Baroque and Galante music, the transition taking place ...around the year 1750. In this talk Charles Cudworth looks at the usefulness of these periods in the study of the history of music and illustrates some of the differences between the music of the late Baroque, Handel for example and that of the Galante or Pre-classical style of J.C. Bach.
