Description
The geographer is concerned with two central questions 'Where? and Why there?. If applied to a town the approach is equally relevant to the present and the past. In urban geography ideas may useful...ly be organised under the headings Situation; Site; Function; Form. The speaker then uses these headings to assemble data on early modern Leicester, and the broadcast notes provide old maps, prints, photographs and sketch-maps. The programme encourages students to experiment with sketch-maps as a means of expressing their own findings and ideas about a town.
