Description
The programme is about the work of students and tutors in an adult literacy scheme in North Bedfordshire. The aim is to provide material which would seem to be amenable to explanation in terms of m...otivation theory as it applies to learning, to see how well the theory fits the real situation, particularly as seen by the adult learners themselves. In the opinion of the director of the scheme, the success or failure, or even continuing attendance of students in an adult literacy scheme cannot be explained purely in terms of their present motivation. However, their present state as adults with deficient reading skills is perhaps a result of the naturally -occurring process of intrinsic motivation having been impeded or transformed at some earlier time. The programme also considers the motivation of the teacher.
