He illustrates Schoenberg's use of twelve-note technique in the Variations, and shows how themes and accompaniments are buil...t up by assembling different versions of the row, and by allotting different notes of the row to different instruments. He also demonstrates Schoenberg's use of the BACH motif as an important structural device.
