Dr. Richard Middleton analyses two pieces of music by Edgar Varese. The first piece, Density 21.5 is for solo flute - Richard Middleton plays various sections on the piano, and also a recording mad...e for the A308 record by the flautist, Judith Pearce. Ionisation is illustrated in the full orchestral version, and three percussionists also play various sections in the studio.
