Description
This programme examines "the work of the Assessment of Performance Unit, set up by the Department of Education in 1974. An extract from Dicken's 'Hard Times is read first then Tim Horton-of th...e Open University interviews Arthur Clegg and Jean Dawson from the Assessment of Performance Unit and then he discusses the success of the unit with Dr. Caroline Gipps and Professor Harvey Goldstein (who have produced an independent report on the APU's work) with Professor Richard Pring (who worked on one of the APU's advisory bodies) and with Professor Harold Rosen (who offers a critique of the unit's work in the field of languages)
