Description
The programme is built up from recordings of various persons professionally concerned with maladjusted children — a psychologist, a London University lecturer on the subject, the Head of a school... for maladjusted children, the director of a special unit for truant and disturbed adolescents, an administrator who has to assess the need for special provision; also in the programme is a teacher from a normal school — an urban comprehensive — many of whose children seem to display facets of maladjusted behaviour. The aim was to arrive at a fuller understanding of the meaning of the term 'maladjustment' — for instance to find out whether it is in any sense a diagnostic term, whether its use is different from one area of the country to another, and whether it is in fact a correct or incorrect description of unhappy and disturbed children. The recordings are linked by commentary from Asher Cashdan, Senior Lecturer in Education at the Open University and E201 Course Team Chairman.
