Description
In this programme Roy Poter talks to Tony Lentin about Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. They discuss Gibbon's explanations for the decline of the Roman Empire, his view of Rome... as a city state and as the centre of the Empire. Gibbon's view of barbarians, such as the Germans, and the place of religion in the Roman Empire.
