Description
Professor Norman Hampson talks to Dr Michael Bartholomew about the eighteenth century Enlightenment. They discuss the reasons for continuing to study the Enlightenment, and whether the problems of ...the twentieth century have undermined the optimism of eighteenth-century writers. They consider the origins of the Enlightenment in the seventeenth century, the national characteristics of Enlightenment writers in different countries, the problem of whether the Enlightenment was the product of an elite, and the role of women in the Enlightenment.
