Description
This programme follows the developments in early wireless from the crystal set to the thermionic valve. Gerald Wells, a well-known collector of early wirelesses, describes the tuning in procedure f...or a 1925 valve set and the foundation of the first wireless shops, based as they often were on bicycle repair establishments. Gerald Green and Melinda Walker read extracts from contemporary "Wireless" magazines, including a set of 'hints and tips' from the first edition. Dr Tom Going and Keith Thrower discuss the commercial and technical developments in the valve between the wars, and the programme ends with a cautionary tales from Gerald Wells about the perils of the 1930's valve tester.
