Description
The programme tells the story of the birth of the world's first regular high definition TV services, by the BBC at Alexandra Palace, London in the 1930's. Philip Ashby introduces the programme from... the room that was once the Marconi-EMI studio, but is now used as a store room. Engineer Tony Bridgewater and Camera Man Frank Cresswell talk in specially recorded interviews about the atmosphere of the Palace during those pioneering days of early television, and their reminiscences of the equipment and people are mixed with archive sound tracks from TV programmes of the day and contemporary news reports of the experiments.
