Description
The programme plays and discusses some extracts which may be said to characterise Christian music as it developed in the West. The works have been chosen to illuminate a central idea of the accompa...nying course unit - the notion of man's affliction and his hope of salvation and final bliss. This first extract is from the Lamentations of Jeremiah but Dr. Berry leads through other aspects of the theme to the Sanctus of the B Minor Mass which Bach intended to be an image of the final contemplation of God himself.
