This radio programme is related to the television programmes about the Nuffield Primary French project: 'Primary French in the Balance, Parts 1 and 2 ' The E2O3 Course Team Chairman, William Presco...tt, who was with the Nuffield project for six years, talks to Mike Golby, Lecturer in Educational Studies at the Open University, about some of the issues that arose. Among the topics they discuss are: 1.Primary French and the culture of the Primary School. Can French be reconciled with the prevailing approaches to teaching adopted in the primary school? 2.Can the education system reconcile individual enterprise by teachers and schools with a legitimate measure of accountability? 3.Why French? How does a new area emerge? How can its possible contribution to the curriculum be evaluated? 4.Different perceptions of a curriculum project. Why do schools become involved? Do they share the same view of the enterprise as the project team
