Description
Pensions : This week we examined the recent row over pensions reform, perhaps the biggest public policy issue facing the government in the past year. We discovered the neglected but surprising evid...ence that was not looked at by the Turner Commission, but might justify a radically different interpretation of the problem. Sod's Law : And if you are feeling, as the Christmas shopping falls through a hole in the bag into the snow, as the family falls into sulks and rancour over the presents, or as your dress rips on the way out to the office party, if you are feeling as so many of us sometimes do "why me; why now?", then take heart, there may be a statistical explanation. And what could cheer you up more? That well-known phenomenon 'sod's law' explained. Speed cameras : Plus the figures behind the recent announcement that speed cameras had been proved to be highly effective, saving many lives and preventing accidents. More or Less takes no view about the desirability of speed cameras, of course, but does wonder if the headline figures were quite as frank as they might have been. Find out what the numbers should have said. Devolution : And why devolution is making it hard to count the things that matter across the UK.
