'Water is essential to all life on earth, yet 1 billion people worldwide do not have access to safe clean water and a further 2.4 billion people are affected by poor sanitation. What can scientists... and technologists do to help provide safe, clean water and adequate sanitation and waste water treatment for everyone? Will saving water in the UK make a difference to drier countries in other parts of the world? What is the impact of the developed world's passion for bottled water? And what will the impact of our demand for fresh fruit and vegetables all year round be on global water supplies? Quentin Cooper is joined by water specialist Professor Richard Carter from Cranfield University, Professor Paul Younger, an expert in hydrogeochemical engineering from the University of Newcastle and Professor Ls̀zl ̤Somlyd̤y,Head of the International Water Association to discuss questions from the audience on the political, logistical and technological aspects of providing safe clean water.'
