Description
Quentin Cooper reports on developments across the sciences. Each week scientists describe their work, conveying the excitement they feel for their research projects. In this programme 'making new m...aps for an island planet' is the motto of a new initiative encouraging interdependence between science and the arts. The Interdependence day project has been set up by the Open University and the Economic and Social Research Council to refresh debate on the big issues facing today's planet. Sustainable development, globalisation, environmental change, all phrases we're used to hearing but not doing much about; the debate has stagnated. Now this project aims to inject some life into these fundamental issues. How are we to save the planet from environmental disaster?
