Description
Harry Hughes was one of the first intake of students to study with The Open University in 1971 and one of its first graduates in 1973. He taught in the Boys Model School in Belfast until his appointment to the Northern Ireland Prison Service as Education Officer for the Compounds of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison in 1974 and Maze Cellular (H Blocks of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison) in 1978. He was later Education officer in the Young Offenders Centre Hydebank Wood and Belfast Prison (Crumlin Road Gaol) before retiring in 1988.
