Description
Brothers James and John Harper created an American publishing company in 1817 and later adopted the name 'Harper & Brothers' in 1833 after Joseph and Fletcher joined the company. The image shows from L to R: Fletcher Harper (1806-1877), James Harper (1795-1869), John Harper (1797-1875) and Joseph Wesley Harper (1801-1870). Publisher Sampson Low became Harper & Brothers' British literary agent in 1844.
