Description
Gordon Macintyre was Regional Director of The Open University in Northern Ireland from 1972 until 1992. He negotiated in 1973 with the Prison Education and Training Service of the Northern Ireland Office and the Officers Commanding the Special Category prisoner groups in the Compounds of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison for access to Open University courses. During the late 1980s he tutored the course Education for Adults with students in the H Blocks of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison. In his role as Regional Director he conducted graduation ceremonies in the prisons.
