Ron McCartney was an Open University Associate Lecturer in Mathematics in the Compounds of the Maze and Long Kesh Prison and in Portlaoise Prison in 1984. He took up a full-time post as Staff Tutor in Education that year and became responsible for organizing Education tutors for students in prison between 1984 and 2007. He has a background in Educational Research and also tutored Mathematics courses for The Open University from 1971 to 2007.
