Description
Josiah Conder was editor of the British literary magazine 'The Eclectic Review' and the abolitionist newspaper 'The Patriot'. He was also an author of religious and literary works, a poet and a hymnodist who wrote several hymns which are still popular today. His most successful publication was his 'Congregational Hymn Book' in 1834. He was a co-founder of the 'British and Foreign Anti-slavery Society for the Abolition of Slavery and the Slave-trade throughout the World'. He never travelled abroad but compiled The Modern Traveller - 30 geographic volumes covering many countries worldwide.
