Description
Edward Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton was an English writer and politician and the father of Robert Bulwer-Lytton. He served as an MP twice, first as a Whig and then as a Conservative. He is known for creating popular phrases such as "the pen is mightier than the sword" and "the almighty dollar". The opening line to his novel 'Paul Clifford' - "It was a dark and stormy night" has become the subject of derision and parody.
