Description
Robert Williams Buchanan was a Scottish poet novelist and playwright. He began writing poetry as a young man when living in Glasgow and his first novel 'The Shadow of the Sword' was published in 1876. He was the author of several successful plays during the 1880s and 1890s.

Letter note: This letter has a related note written by the Reverend Frederick William Low who compiled the volumes c.1913: "Robert Buchanan, a versatile writer in prose and verse was born Aug. 18. 1841. His poems include "London Poems", "Wayside Posies", "Napoleon Fallen", "The City of Dream" &c. He wrote several notable novels including "A Child of Nature", "God and the Man" &c. and his dramatic efforts include a well known melodrama, "Alone in London". He died June 10. 1901."
