Description
Louis Blanc was a French socialist politician and historian. His political ideas influenced the development of socialism in France. Following the Revolution of 1848 Blanc became a member of the provisional government. He was later forced into exile and lived in London before returning to France in 1870 to serve as a member of the National Assembly.

Letter note: This letter has a related note written by the Reverend Frederick William Low who compiled the volumes c.1913: "Jean Joseph Louis Blanc, a celebrated French Socialist & historian was born October 29. 1811, and died Dec. 6. 1882. He took a prominent part in the vicissitudes of French history between 1848 & 1876, and wrote a "History of the French Revolution" and "Lettres sur l'Angleterre", to which the subjoined letter undoubtedly has reference."
