Description
James Gascoyne-Cecil, the 2nd Marquess of Salisbury, was a British politician who was variously appointed Lord Temporal and in the cabinet as Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal and later Lord President of the Council. He was father to Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, the 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, who became Prime Minister three times, and grandfather to Arthur Balfour who also served a term as Prime Minister.
