Description
Martin Farquhar Tupper was an English writer and poet most well known for his 'Proverbial Philosophy' series. He was encouraged to publish it in 1837 by Henry Stebbing and forty editions of the work were published in Britain over the next thirty years. It also did very well in the United States. Tupper was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1845. He supported many campaigns of reform such as the Student Volunteer Movement.
