Description
Dinah Craik was an English poet and novelist. She is most well known for her 1856 novel 'John Halifax Gentleman' which presented the ideals of middle class life in Victorian England.

Description: Dinah Craik writes to inform the recipient (likely to be Sampson Low) that she is in talks with Harper Publishers in America to publish a book that is the companion to 'A French Country Family'. She also refers to French historian and politician François Guizot and offers to assist in undertaking business with his daughter, writer Henriette Guizot de Witt. Mrs Craik also refers to Alexander Strahan (1833-1918), whose company, located in Ludgate Hill, published the monthly periodical 'Good Words' from 1860.
