Description
John Cumming was a Scottish preacher born in Aberdeen. He was appointed to the Crown Court Church (the Scottish National Church) in Covent Garden in 1832. Cumming published around 180 books. A controversial figure, he was outspoken in his anti-Catholic views and gave public lectures denouncing Cardinals Nicholas Wiseman and John Henry Newman. Many of his letters on the subject were published in The Times newspaper.
