Description
In this programme Professor Arnold Kettle introduces a discussion between hinself, Graham Martin and Dipak Nandy, fomer lecturer in English at the University of Canterbury, on the subject of Marvel...l's great poem "To His Coy Mistress". The participants discuss the political and social background of the poem and then its tone, its structure and its imagery. Interesting divergences of opinion appear on the question of Marvell's meanings. The programme ends with a re-reading of the poem to which the student should be able to bring increased comprehension and appreciation. The poem is read by Anthony Jackson.
