Description
Harry Bragg, headmaster of Bower Grove School, takes a group of slow learners through a range of diagnostic tests. Five children from Bower Grove School are seen being tested in psychomotor and lan...guage skills. Included are tests based on those designed by Stott to assess gross motor skill (jumping, ball-bouncing and catching, fine motor skill (bilateral manipulative tests), and language comprehension (Reynell Verbal Comprehension). The film demonstrates some of the key learning difficulties of slow learning children. Having tested some of the children, Bragg also carries out remedial work in both manipulative and language skills. Remedial work in the former category involves breaking down a particular task into its component skills for ease of mastery. Remedial work in the language area involves use of the Bell and Howell Language-Master. This television programme provides the correspondence text 1 Slow learning children with visual primary source material, giving the student an opportunity to observe for an extended period of time the behaviour of slow learners. At one point in the film, time is deliberately stretched so that a child's reactions can be observed as well as his actual test performance.
