Description
This programme's concern is with the politics of dependence. The previous programmes in the course focused on one particular country and considered that country in relation to particular political ...concepts. This programme takes a different approach. It argues that political systems cannot be compared unless these systems are placed in a global context and the effect of the global situation on internal political systems is analysed. In this case the global system is the international market economy, The programme argues that the world economy divides economic resources, and hence power, between the developed and the developing world, The developing world finds itself in the position of growing relatively poorer in relation to the developed world, since, it is argued, trade, investment and aid still largely benefits the developed world. This division of wealth and power has an influence on the internal politics of the developing countries. The programme thus argues that the internal political systems studied in comparative politics are often dependent on the international market economy.
