Footage description: Reed introduces the programme and looks at the role of worker participation in Europe. Shot of Volkswagen car factory. Reed interviews Peel, the E.E.Cs industrial relations chief on workers participation in Europe; how it works, how it differs from British trade unionism etc. A meeting between British and German trade unionists to discuss mutual problems is shown. Reed comments on recent developments over shots of the meeting. Cuthbertson discusses the issues raised with British trade unionists. They outline their reservations, insisting that there will be a conflict of interests. They react critically to the idea of works councils. Reed confronts Peel with some of the objections raised in sequence 4. He emphasises the benefit that greater co-operation will bring. Reed sums up on the British position on worker participation.
