Description
The major part of this film was shot in two extensive areas South-West of Sudbury, Ontario; the Whitefish Lake Indian Reserve and the Killarney Lakes Provincial Park. This section of the programme ...sets out to demonstrate how the air pollutants which derive from the smelting of metals in the Sudbury area, and led in the first instance to considerable environmental damage close by such operations, were ultimately exported giving rise to problems, first in the Whitefish Lake area and later in Killarney. The disappearance of fish from the lakes and the slowly dying forests are commented on by an Ontario Ministry of the Environment spokesman, an Indian Chief from the Whitefish Reserve and an elderly Killarney fisherman. In the closing section of the film, the impact of another pollutant source on a water body is investigated - that of inorganic mercury.
