Footage description: | A wooly-headed woman looks at a second-hand car in a garage. As she looks at it the dealer tries to sell it to her. The commentary points out things she should be looking for, how she approaches the sale in a sloppy way, and how the salesman tells her very little of value about the car. A man now goes to buy the same car. He has a list of items that he intends to ask about. He knows what he wants, because of this he is able to get a better deal and more information about the car from the dealer. The commentary discusses the man's performance and highlights any legal problems that could arise with a sale. Finally the programme gives some advice on what to do if you buy a car privately from an individual. The customer chats to the man selling the car and checks it for faults. The commentary criticises the man's approach and offers advice about the legal position when buying privately. |
