Footage description: An old lady takes a faulty fan heater back to the shop where she bought it in order to exchange it. She is put off by the assistant in the shop. The commentator criticises the meek attitude of the customer. The incident is now acted through again. This time the woman is excessively hostile and walks out of the shop threatening legal action. The commentator criticises the woman for her lack of diplomacy. Finally the situation is acted through once more. This time, by being firm but diplomatic, the old lady achieves a satisfactory result, the offer of a new machine or her money back. The second example in the programme concerns a man taking back a tape recorder to a shop, to exchange it, even though it is out of its guarantee period. The customer and the manager of the shop argue with each other about the quality of the machine. The commentator remarks about the customers rights and approach to the situation. Eventually the two protagonists achieve an acceptable compromise to the problem. The commentator remarks about the lessons to be learned from this confrontation.
