Description
The programme illustrates a goal planning research project carried out by the Mental Handicap in Wales - Applied Research Unit with a group of Health Visitors in South Wales. The progress of two cl...ients is shown, both young children, Lorraine and Janey, with mental handicaps. One of Lorraine's goals is improvement of the fine movements of her hands. Janey, aged 9, used to be able to eat using only her hands, but after a few months participation in the goal planning programme is able to feed herself with a little assistance from her mother. An important emphasis is the support system necessary for both client and health visitor. The film includes interviews with health visitors, senior nursing staff and Sue Revill, the research officer involved and Vic Finkelstein, Open University academic.
