Description
In this programme five 9-year old children are observed attempting parts of Kagan and Witgin tests of learning styles. Asher Cashdan comments briefly on each. The tests, Kagan's Matching Familiar F...igures (MFF) and Witkin's Embedded Figures Test (EFT), aim to identify children exhibiting different learning styles in the test situation. For example the Kagan tests attempt to differentiate impulsive and reflective learners. The student is invited to observe the different styles demonstrated by the children and to take timings directly off the television screen. This television programme provides visual primary source material for the correspondence text 'Learning Styles and Strategies' which examines in detail the whole question of individual differences in learning style and their relationship to personality. In the radio programme which is part of Unit 1, these children are discussed by their class teacher and headmistress.

| Footage description: | In this programme, five children all from the same North London Junior School, are seen attempting several items from the two tests of learning styles: Kagan's Matching familiar figures' (MFF) and Witkin's 'Embedded figures Test' (EFT). In each case, Asher Cashdan demonstrates the test material and makes comments at the end of each test. Kate is seen talking to the tester. She is taken through two practice items and is then seen working items 1 - 9 of the MFF. Times taken are shown. Throughout the programme the camera concentrates on the children's facial reactions rather than the test cards, though some of these are seen in detail. Richard attempts all items of the MFF Sandra is seen attempting items 1 - 2 and 7 - 9 of the MFF. Roscoe is taken through the practice item and attempts one item from the EFT. Joanna attempts one different item from the EFT. |
