This programme is in 2 parts. In the first Dr Barsham examines modulation in several bars of a sonata by Haydn. In the second Ian Graham-Jones demonstrates the top register of the recorder. The ens...emble then rehearses a short piece, and questions of style and technique are considered. The programme ends with a performance of a Bouree by Jean Joseph Mouret.

Footage description: Dr. Barsham introduces the programme and plays through the first bars of the sonata. She then looks for changes of key, or modulation in this piece and examines the harmony for the first eight bar Dr. Barsham uses the results of this examination to help build up a left hand part for the next eight bars. The recorder section of this programme is preceded by the Minuet by Bohm played on harpsichord, Gamba and Recorder. Ian Graham-Jones then gives instruction on fingering in order to achieve higher notes. The ensemble then play through a bouree by Jean-Joseph Mouret. Credits.
