Description
This programme is the fifth in the series which makes up the television components of the fourth level course "Sources and Historiography, Great Britain 1750 - 1950". John Golby, Staff Tu...tor in History at the Open University, discusses the changes in economic power and social and political influence of the landed elite "between 1750 and 1850 by looking at two Yorkshire families. The Middletons, who own Birdsall and the Sykes, who own Sledmere, still farm on the East Riding and still live in the great houses built in the mid eighteenth century, so the film is able to go some way towards recreating the life style and social context of the eighteenth century landed elite.
