Using a case study previously described in television programme 2 of the same series, this programme considers the meaning and distribution of functions of random variables. Using film animation, t...he idea of the Jacobian is introduced in terms of equivalent areas. The programme also illustrates the use of both the cdf and pdf techniques in determining the distribution of functions of random variables.
