Geoff Holister at the Hy-Mac factory in Rhymney outlines the stress problem on the lower boom of the model 58O excavator which faced Hy-Mac engineers in late 1972. He explains the 'patch up' solution they came up with and why they were unhappy with it. Geoff Holister describes the Stresscoat (Brittle lacquers) technique of stress analIysis. Film shots of Stresscoat being applied to a model of the lower boom. Shots of the model being tested.
