Footage description: David Crecraft next to a mock-up of a CEGB power station control panel at the CEGB training centre, Leeds. He introduces the programme which will examine several display and recording devices. John Monk demonstrates several different types of recording devices. He explains how each works. Output signals of these devices are recorded on paper in various ways (electric charges, recorder pens, light beams on light sensitive paper). The above devices all work on the moving coil principle. Monk uses a display instrument to illustrate the effect of circuit resistance on out-put signals. Monk demonstrates two recording devices. These record output signals on magnetic tape rather than paper. Monk shows a tape recorder and an instrumentation recorder. The input and output wave form of these recorders are displayed on an oscilloscope screen. David Crecraft introduces George Bellis who will examine visual display units for transducer output. George Bellis generates visual display signals on a cathode oscilloscope screen. He explains how the patterns are generated as he demonstrates. He also uses a circuit diagram to aid his explanation. He then points out the components of the display unit and continues with his demonstration. George Bellis demonstrates the memory capability of a real visual display unit Several display formats are shown (tabular, bar charts, etc.) David Crecraft in the CEGB power station control room mock-up shown at the beginning of the programme. He points out several of the display devices and tells what they display. Crecraft simulates a fault in the system to demonstrate the fault display devices. Crecraft continues to point out display devices. He demonstrates some of them. A water pump fault is simulated by two of the engineers at the training centre. The fault is corrected from the control panel by the engineers. David Crecraft in a one man CEGB control room. He points out some of the display devices there. A fault is simulated on this control panel and the operator corrects it.
